The original Carrville Mag:Tot Smith, Centre Half Submitted on 27/09/2010 by ?
According to the August 1948 programme write-up....

Tot joined the St. James's set-up from Horden Juniors way back in 1941. The precise date, according to the record, was March, 31st. He was chief holder of the centre half position during wartime football and a focal point for much discussion on the principles of centre half play. Some said he was a stopper. Others said: "and what of it?" The days of centre halves who keep up with the attack, and feed their wings are gone. If a centre half prevents his opposing centre forward from scoring he has doe a good job. And Tot does a good job.

Now that is a proper centre half's hair-cut. In comparison, his young-un's recent hair efforts really leave a lot to be desired.....
